A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

He rescued four early chances in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
